A couple of questions. I know 3/4 and 1 ton pickups/vans usually have "full-floating" differentials (a difference in axle bearings of some kind compared to the average passenger vehicle differential). Photo is a local '69 Charger with a transplanted Dana 60 from a truck. So I would like to ask:

Does the Dana 60 have the "full-floating" type axle bearings?

What is the next step "up" from the Dana 60 (stronger, heavier)?

Thank you.

Does the Dana 60 have the "full-floating" type axle bearings? No not in cars.
What is the next step "up" from the Dana 60 (stronger, heavier)? Dana 70

If it was transplanted from a truck it would have 8 stud wheels. Unless it was cut and car bearing hubs welded in. There are some odd dana 60 5 lug truck axles but they would also have a larger bolt circle as the car has the 5 on 4.5 pattern. What makes you say it was from a truck? Also from a truck it would not have a pinion snubber provision. Does the one in the picture have the pinion snubber or provision?

I have a cut down 1 ton truck Dana 60 under my Challenger. We cut off the full floating housing ends, narrowed and welded on Dana car housing ends from Strange along with a Stange 4:10 Pro Gear, light weight spool, 40 spline gun drilled axles and 5/8" Studs. The truck housings are a thicker diameter tube also.

Because that's what the Mexican owner/mechanic (a local "Mr. Mopar" who owns a 'Cuda, Road Runner, Charger, Satellite Sebring Plus, and Belvedere) told me (vehicle is located in Mexico).

I also used a similarly modified truck Dana 60 in my Cuda. There was no provision for a pinion snubber.
Some consider a ford 9” to be the next step up from a Dana.

Truck housings do not have a provision for a pinion snubber. I suppose you could drill and tap the bolt holes for the snubber if needed. I run Caltracs and split mono leafs so it was not needed for my application.

I believe that there were some Dana 60's used in a few 1/2 ton Ford pickups in the 60's. They would have a 5 on 5" lug pattern.

Truck Dana 60’s in both of my cars. Tubes cut/shortened to length, new ends installed.
Ladders on one, Cal Tracs on the other, good to go.

There are not enough performance parts for a Dana 70 for car applications. Off road/mud trucks, yes. Air lockers etc.

I have a truck 60 cut down and I also have a truck Dana 70 cut down. Not much difference between the two.
Dr diff said both axles would be interchangeable with the 35 spline carriers.
