Hi the title says it all I'm getting ready to drop the new 440 I built into my 73 Roadrunner and I'm not sure which torque converter I need as I don't know much about them. I'm sure you'll need a bunch of info to help so here it goes. The car is a 73 roadrunner, 727 transmission, 8 3/4 rear end and 3.23 gears. The engine is a freshly rebuilt 440 bored .30 over, stock rods, forged speed pro 6 pack pistons, forged crank, 452 heads rebuilt but stock, comp cam grind number CRB 270H-10 I will attach cam card pic and I am running Edelbrock E street EFI. I am running 17 inch foose wheels with I believe 45 series tires if that makes a difference. If there is any other info needed I will happily give it. I plan on mostly street driving the car though I do like to get on it and I drive my car quite a bit not to say it will never see the strip but not very often.

So are we talking a stock converter? If you are thinking stall you need a lower gear.

I have no converter and I don't know what I need the gears listed are the ones I'm using so you tell me what converter. I know absolutely nothing about choosing a torque converter. If your saying i just need a stock converter than that's what i'll look for.

I just went through this myself this summer.
440 , AT / 3.23 sure grip and comp cam , mine is close to your specs 462/470 lift and 218/224 duration at 50%.
I went with a reman stock stall 12" convertor , idles smooth at 800rpm in gear { I have it set at 900 idle } I can foot brake it to 1,200 then the tires start to loose grip.

Just make sure you get the right bolt pattern to match your flex plate, there is a large bolt pattern and small on the flex plates.
and make sure you get the convertor to match your engine balance {internal or external } my 440 is a cast crank one so I had to use the convertor with the balance weights on it for a 440.

Factory high stall rebuilds are available. Used in 383hp, 340, etc. Check Day co from your local trans supply warehouse.
