Hi my name is Doug and I was wondering how you tell if the engine is the original 426 wedge in a 1965 satellite...
thank you

There’s really no way to tell. If your car was a 426 it will have an 80 under the A on the fender tag. Then check date codes on the tag and engine.

It does have an 80 ,,,,so the heads should be 518’s?

So did the 65 426 street wedge heads have the 518 casting number for a max wedge or the 516 for the 383
there should be more letters n numbers besides just 426

street wedge used street heads , not the race versions . does it have heat risers on the intake and on the heads , its street heads . max wedge heads didn't have the heat risers for passing exhaust air under the carbs .

welcome to FBBO

I think he is trying to verify what the correct part number should be on the heads for a 426 street engine all the books I see don't have that info I'm kinda curious myself what the part number should be because the 518s were max wedge

not part number , its a casting number 2268341 hotrod ref source , and 2406516 every body else . it should have chrome rocker covers from the factory as well .

Ok so I’m confused,, does that mean they put B heads on RB motors ?

same bolt pattern , b is just a de-stroked rb , alot of parts interchange . rb means raised block . this was a common thing for chrysler started with the early hemi and poly head motors . and then the wedges , but the 426 hemi never got a de-stroked version , but 361 is the same bore as 413 , 383 is the same bore as a 426 , 440 and 400 are close the 400 is bigger in the bore then the 440 . the 318 and their v6 same bore , 360 and v10 truck , 340 stands alone . so i'll back up 350 361 383 400 are b blocks , 383 (59-60) 413 426 440 are all rb blocks .

Thx for that information ,,,
The guys says it’s a 426 wedge car and the tag verify it is,but I think the last 3 numbers on the head castings are 516 not 518 would this be possible ?
