Original Y pipe to the bumper, what should it cost?

Engine is a 273, which is going to be rebuilt in a couple months, Id like to install a new 2" single exhaust system from the Y pipe to the rear bumper. Im going to be using a stock muffler(walker quiet flow). Before I go to the local muffler shops and shop for a price, What should I be paying? I know most of you guys go with full stainless, cross pipes, all the bells and whistles, Etc... Im just going stock. Just trying to get a ballpark here.

My 2-cents? Buy a pre-bent Y-pipe, pre-bent tail pipe & Walker muffler and have your exhaust shop fabricate the rest.

Accurate LTD get's $1400 for theirs. It's good stuff and it fits perfect but it is spendy. Check with Waldron. They are good but more reasonably priced.

2".....? Isn't that kinda small,even for a 273? 2.25 at least? Thinking out loud that it may be worth a few ponies and mpg. Even 2.5 shouldn't be too much for a stock 273 should it? This is a SINGLE exhaust.

I looked at some quiet Flow mufflers that were 2.5 in/out and the pass tubes were 2" at most. If you want quiet but with better flow a larger case super turbo may be a better option.

You could always run into a single 2.25 or 2.5 from there back.Any competent muffler shop could do that. If you are doing exhaust anyway it is free HP in my mind. Better efficiency.

2" is fine for a 273 2 bbl. 2.5" are you crazy? Have you ever driven a 273 2 bbl? No power, a larger exhaust will only hurt it, not help it.

In the old days you could buy premade pipes for cars from the auto parts store. But they are long gone now.

Ask around at cars shows and Cruze ins to find a local exhaust shop that's not crazy high priced.

The sweetest factory exhaust is the "65" Barracuda/Dart 273 Commando/Charger straight thru system and it will work on a 2 barrel motor also. 2 in pipe to 2 1/2 single exhaust to a 2 1/4 straight thru muffler to a 2 1/4 straight thru resonator. It is quiet inside the car and loud out the rear. If you call them, they will probably sell you just a Y-Pipe and probably make it in larger 2 1/4 pipe, aluminized steel or stainless steel. Muffler and resonator would be good glass packs. The only down side is lead time.

Where are you taking the engine to be built?

Im doing a bearing, ring & gasket job. Ill have a local shop do the heads and tank/check the block but ill do everything else myself. The shop ive used years ago was called Valley head service. I hope they are still in business.

I'm down the street from you in San Bernardino, have had my 440 at a machine shop since 2022!
I'm replacing a 2BBL 273

2.5 inch single would be as small as I’d go after the Y pipe. There is a very talented exhaust guy here locally, he did dual 2.5 with H pipe $600. I supplied mufflers.

65 A body resonators used to be quite pricey.

You can use a glass pack muffler for the resonator, he is not restoring a Formula S Barracuda or Dart GT. A 2 1/4 tail pipe will use a standard HP rear muffler hanger. 2 1/4 single exhaust with straight through muffler and resonator will be plenty good for a 273 two or four barrel motor.

The factory said 2 1/4 duals added 20 HP to a 8:1 318.
Whether you believe it or not...
...that's what I'd do.
