Working on my new project, and the paint is pretty rough. The stripe kit is still there though.
But, given the direction I want to go I'm thinking primer black for a while, and/or a black repaint down the road. This is a '76 Charger Daytona, and there's not a ton of them though I know rarity does not equal value every time. Is there any compelling reason NOT to primer it?
You can see in the pic the one area where the clear coat has survived. The rest is gone and the roof used to have vinyl and that's mostly surface rust at this point.

Patina is in right now.
600 sand paper then buff it.Finish with a good liquid polish like TurtleWax clear polish. The paint on this one was DEAD and chalky.
My 2 cents.

Thanks for that. Nice Valiant BTW! Other spot is this one (see pic). Figure I could carefully sand down the rust, then tape around the blotch and get the closest Krylon match I can find.

Paint it however you like, don't look back, and enjoy the hell out of it.

I have a '79 300 (I'm the original owner). We were screwed once our cars were labeled as "malaise era" (1973-1983).
