I have searched everywhere. Looked at the sheets with casting numbers ,etc, but I can't quite figure out a year or what this tranmission came out of. The numbers i did find are the following: H2801543 & 3351488? I think the last two are 8's, but could be 3's. Any idea's? I am not seeing much more for numbers on this transmission. I do see a number in the casting 261-3. I got it attached to a 1969 383 2 barrel carb engine. I wanted to use this transmission in my 70 RR which I have a rebuilt 440 to go in it. Aren't most these transmissions aobut the same? Please advise any info on this transmission if you can help. TY

2801543 is the part # for 1967-1968 383 2bbl transmission. It will work fine with your 440, although I suggest rebuilding it.
1968 is the first year that julian dates appear on the trans oil pan stamp, so I think yours is a 1967.
3351433 is a serial number so it does not help with dating.
On driver side of trans case, you will have markings like this which confirm 1967. The markings are just above shift lever and kickdown lever.

Thank you so much for the info. I was googling etc and getting more confused. As long as this transmission will work behind my 440 for my 70 RR I will use it. Yes, Having it rebuilt first, though. I have found a guy in a small town here in Montna who is now "retired" doing trnamissions. He had a transmission shop for over 40 years back in Spokane. He said he has done many 727's over the years. He quoted me 700.00 to go through it, completely. Now i gotta figure out what torque converter to buy, and from who. I have a 440 with 500 lift cam and it has 10.1 keith black pistons in it. 323 suregrip. not sure who sells a decent torque converter for my set up which would be good. Any suggestions? I have the one with this transmission, but should replace it.

"While it shares the same heavy-duty cast aluminum case as the big block HP (High Performance) variants, the 383-2bbl specific assembly (Part #2801543) was calibrated for more standard touring duty. Internally, it came equipped with a lower-ratio band lever, three-clutch front drums, and 3-pinion planetaries" Can any of this be upgraded during the rebuild for my HP 440? When he orders a rebuild kit would anything come with ordering for a 440 engine kit, or anything? Or just have it rebuilt using anything different to make it more like the 4 barrel HP version 727 ???

Is there anyway to know what make of Mopar and model car this transmsission came out of? Assuming the 33514.. number is part of the vin for one of the Mopar cars?

3 pinion plantaries are just fine. A 4 disc high gear drum would be good. A383-2bbl trans comes with a 3 disc, it wil, work nit another is better. You don't really need 5.
A 3.8 band lever would be good, but more is not better so avoid the 4.2 and especially the 5.0 lever.
The stock rebuild kit is fine.

A383-2bbl that came in a B and C body car.

B&M makes fine torque converters rated around 2500rpm stall, which is excellent for a street 440. I like the B&M 10415. You need a matching 10 inch flex plate. See pics below.
Rebuilder: BTW, $700 is a good price. You can ask him if you can pay more for upgraded clutches. See what he recommends. Shift kit is also a possibility. Transgo TF2 is good quality.

No, 1967 transmission has no VIN ID. All we know is that it came out of a Chrysler passenger car. Based on production numbers, probably a C-body, but again, no way to tell.

TY so much everyone for advising me. I will look into doing this stuff.

A383-2bbl comes in a B and C body. A truck/ van would have a different Number on the side. But a question on the forum did ID it as an A100.
But a question on the forum did ID it as an A100? My transmission or another?

Isn't this the correct one? it has a flex plate already on it. Pardon Our Interruption

That is correct 10415 torque converter. Mine did not come with a flex plate. Description does not mention a flex plate being included.
Larger 11-inch flex plate and smaller 10-inch flex plate in pictures.
As you can see from the Summit specs, Torque Converter Bolt Circle (in.): 10.000 in.
You need the 10-inch flex plate with B&M 10415 torque converter. With a 383 2-barrel, the flex plate was almost certainly 11-inch from the factory. Someone could have changed it later.
