I came across a r6 p8 motor for a descent price for 7500 is anyone running one i know they have good horse power but the torque isn’t great any thoughts i know i need the torque to move my heavy girl or should i stick with a 3 gen hemi

In most forms they are still over 490ftlbs of torque so not exactly a slouch in the torque dept.. I've done the nascar experience in the past with similar motor of that vintage and they take off just fine but dont really come alive until after 4000rpm. That being said, parts availability may become an issue down the road. A few yrs back you could pick these motors and R5P7 parts up for a song but now that the stocks have been bought up, the prices are going up. Even if you can get extra parts you will assuredly have to have most of it custom fit. These were never factory assembled motors so a part that came off a Penske built motor may not bolt right up to an Evernham motor. Unless you have really deep pockets go with the gen 3 hemi.

Yea a street engine that builds peak torque and horsepower at 8200 RPM would be fun as hell for a bit, but kinda not practical in most cases.

With any decision regarding what motor to build, buy or modify the first question always needs to be what will the intended use be? A motor like that would most likely be miserable for cruising along at 2,500-3,000 rpm but if you just want something to go out on short hell raising rides it might be a lot of fun.

You could re-cam it & get far better low end or torque #'s too
a different or modified intake/induction to bring the peak usable RPM's down,
more street/strip user friendly... If that's your goal...

Not knowing exactly why or what your trying to do & achieve...
This is the racers hangout after all :lol:

I'm sure they really weren't made/assembled with specific parts
to putz around under 4000 RPM, think outside the box,
change a few parts, it can be done !!
I'm sure they were made/assembled to be used at WOT
{wide open throttle} most the time, like most race engines are
But there's more than one way to skin that proverbial cat...

The engine is still just an air pump, like any other engine is,
it doesn't know you're not running NASCAR, rework it a bit,
make it fit your needs...

If you're still gonna' race it
a drag race style cam change & springs retainers etc.
would do wonders, the heads will still flow great, you can still make power...
They aren't a very long stroke IIRC...
considered a Small Block 358ci is what they usually run {IIRC}
something like 750hp/540tq is an Infinity series style
a-typical "lower compression/carbureted combo" {?}
The big boys combos are 15:1 compression more like
9,500 RPM 900+hp/650+tq remember it's a short stroker
They are light, like 500#'s {or less} complete...

The Mopar R6 P8 engine was like $13,700+ 6 years ago...
I saw one just freshened up, for sale for $8,500 recently
750hp/540tq

There's a guy on Mofarts that has a bunch of stuff for them
P5 something or other is his screen name, I don't know the guy...

Not sure about parts availability for anything other than roundy round stuff...

But; I have no experience with them...
I was thinking of picking one up a while back too...
I just had way too many B/RB parts already...
