Hi all,

When you first start up your car with a Rallye dash, are the gauges supposed to sweep all the way right, then settle back down to normal?

Thanks,
Mikey

Thanks for the replies. Interesting. My ignition switch needs to be replaced because the gauges don't register unless I fiddle with the key. When I start the car, I get no gauge readings until I barely turn the key back to the left just a touch... then the fuel, temp, and OP will sweep all the way right then settle back to the left where they should be. The temp gauge, though, is like it almost gets stuck because it sweeps so much but then it always settles back. I've already replaced the instrument VR with the solid state unit so not sure what the cause of that is. It never happened until recently.

You have a voltage spike from the gauge voltage limiter. Its sending full voltage to the gauges causing the excessive rise on them. Not good. It could burn the gauges up. I suspect a poor ground to the limiter or a bad limiter.

Ahh.. see... this is why I totally love you guys. Thanks P. I think I can reach the VR without removing the cluster so I'll fiddle with it to see if I can get a better ground. Worse case, I'll put the old one back in and get another coming from a different source, I guess. Ironic... that's why I replaced the points unit in the first place.

Thanks again,
Mikey
