Rear Sliders

Hey guys just got done Mini Tubbing my 66 Coronet. Moved in S/S springs, braced 8 3/4, Rancho's.... and now the sliders...

Has anyone installed these? I sunk them in the frame rails in the rear lining them up with the shackles... should they be parrallel to the rear frame? (SEE IMAGES), the spring boxes? or ? If I try to install on the same plane as the Spring boxes, they would be running lower towards the back of the car. Am I being too ****?? It only moves about 3" front to back...

I would think, the idea would be to keep the spring as flat as possible during all its travel... requiring me to lower the back of the slider (over 1"), would look really awkward...

Any ideas? or help would be appreciated...

You do want to make them level as possible.You also want to center the bolt at ride height or a little to the front of the slider.Does it have to be perfect no.
 
Not level,,, keep the slider perpendicular to the natural datum "inline" with the front eylet and rear eylet of the spring. You don't want to bind the springs...... They should be left to travel in the natural direction when loaded and unloaded. I used the on our Late Model dirt track car and they are unbelievable!!!!

Here are how mine are done.Look at the relation to the original shackle mnt.Before the springs were smashed and trashed.The bolt would line up with the shackle mnt at ride height or just behind it.When drag racing you are more concerned with squat and a little axle wrap.The biggest reasons for using spring slider are no more arc rotation.Keeping the pivot point concistent and no shackle bind.


For the guys driving around looking for the finish line.They usually set the sliders up as 67b-body has posted.With the left slider spring bolt almost all the way back and the right side just opposite.They also put them parrallel to the front mnt point to allow for more axle drop.To help keep the axle parrallel to the ground and the inside tire on the ground.I am referring to roundy round racers.Road course racers set them more neutral.

Sliders

Thanks everyone for all the great responces! I'm just going to tack everything in for now... wait until I get all the driving weight in the car before any final welding!

Really like the drawing 67 B-body! That is exactly what I was thinking, but needed the illustration to see it.

The car is going to be set up for bracket racing/street (now that we have no more tracks in So Cal)... so I will go with a netural center position to start. In the photos, I have a jack under the spring checking the compression and rise of travel. I just did not let the jack drop all the way down... showing it a bit to the rear of the slider.

Again appreciate all the responces!

Leaf spring "Sliders" can also be used on the front of the rear leafs as spring perches, with decent results, either using CalTracs or Slide-a-Link type bars & leaf spring rear suspensions...
