Replacing heater core 67 B-body non A/C

My FSM says I have to remove the heater assembly to remove the core....seems to me I remember removing the core from my 67 Charger without removing the complete heater assembly.. of course that was 20 years ago, so I may be wrong.
Anyway, anybody chime in.

Yes you have to remove the entire heater box and split it open. A good time to check and clean.

Watch out and make sure your inlet/outlet pipe are the same length as your old core. On my 66 I installed core, put heater in car pipes were only 1/4" out of firewall. Removed heater box an core took old core to radiator shop that sold they switched pipes.
 
Send your original core to Glen-Ray for a recore! you will be happy you did when it fits correctly and will last!
