We’re any 68/69 Roadrunners built with small blocks/904 transmissions or were they only originally big block cars ?

I am not 100% certain but I believe the 318 cars did, any 340 or 360 car would probably have had a 727.

I believe you’re probably correct. I was thinking the same. Thank you

68 - 383 or 426
69 - 383, 426 and 440 6 barrel (mid year)
70 - 383, 440 6 barrel and 426

71 and up, not for sure other than the 340 was an option, but nothing smaller, I do know that.
Edit- 340 was the smallest engine for 71 I should have said, and I believe 72. 73-74 was when the 318 came into play. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

A lot of late model Roadrunners had 318’s. A lot of late base model Chargers did too.

71, only the fourth year of production, is not a late model roadrunner. No 318 that year. Can't compare to a Charger, those could even have a 225 inline six.

I don’t think that site is correct? I’ve not heard of or seen a 71 roadrunner with anything smaller than a 340.
I’m referencing 73-74 cars when I say late model. To my understanding a lot of those 73-74 base models included 318’s. Both 73-74 Roadrunners and Chargers had 318’s. My belief was, beginning in 71 there were no big blocks installed. The 360 was Chrysler’s new biggest motor installed in some vehicles starting in 71 (particularly vans and trucks starting in 71-72) The 340 was the new flagship performance engine in some vehicles. The late B body model cars (73 - 74 ) received 318’s. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. I assume this is correct because I’ve seen and heard of a lot of 73-74 B body cars having 318’s ?

You are correct that in '73 a lot of road runners had the 318, it was the new base engine. However, many had the 400, and the 440 was still available until the end of the 1974 model year. 1975 still offered the 400 as well. Aside from the b bodies, the 440 was also still common in C bodies and trucks and wasn't phased out until the end of the 70's.

The big blue book for 1973 passenger cars M21 has the folowing engine sizes available: #44 318 Limited production, #55 340, #68 400 4 bbl. carb., and #86 440 Hi. Perf.

Also plenty of 68-70 Chargers with 318s, even some that made it out the door with the trusty 'ol slanty.. for roadrunners, 68-69 got a 383 or 426 hemi, for 69-1/2 and 1970 they added the 440 six Barrel. And who gives a **** what they put in them after that

You’re right. It totally slipped my mind that the 440’s were installed in the late 70’s. In Chrysler New Yorkers for example.

True that, brother. True that. Ha Ha !

Just an FYI to add and this is not a quote from some book, The 440 went away in 71 for Most passenger cars, but not trucks or motorhomes. The 400 (383 based B engine) was still available after 71.
