rpm not the same as what i running

my tacho is reading 3500 rpm when the after market I got under neath it says it only running 1000 rpm in the 71 r/t . is this fixable ?

I'm not positive on 71 circuit board but on my 65, there is an adjusting screw on the Potential transformer that is used to fine tune them. Yours probably has more issues than that though. 2500 rpms is a bunch.
