hey guy's quick question. I have an 8.75 rear with a 489 sure grip with 3.23 gears in it I've had sitting around for a few years. I decided I was gonna clean it up, sand blast, paint it, put new axle bearing in and throw it in my 73 roadrunner. while trying to turn it over I could only rotate it 3/4 rotation then it would get stuck. I pulled it all apart tonight and found there was a bit of rust on the tips of like 3 teeth on the ring from sitting. everything else looked great in there. I wire brushed it by hand and it spins over fine now. Do you think this will be a problem having a little pitting where the rust was as its only on a few teeth?

It will be fine.

I cleaned the rust off my 3.55's 16 years ago. That was quite a few burnouts with the 4 speed ago.

Give it a try. I had the same in a 4.10 8-1/4 (50’s predecessor to the 8-3/4) and it howled after doing that but you won’t know until you try.
