Up here where I alive most people are “real” Indians. Although they are called aboriginals here.
Literally everyone laughs at southerners that puff up over some small percentage of native ancestry. Here, theoretically you could be native at 25%, but chances are unless you look the part you’re going to get called an effing whitey. At around fifty percent you could be Métis, which is generally French and native going back generations. But you gotta prove it, otherwise, again, you’re an effing whitey. Up here, if you want to be indian you have to have a treaty card to prove it. No treaty card, you’re an effing whitey.

Plenty of "real" Indians in Minnesota as well. No need for them to fake it. They get discriminated against plenty on their own. I have some very good friends up there I've been friends with since we were kids. The whole family. It seems as I recall they may have been of the Canadian variety originally. Great people. But in general the Native Americans are a very poor community - except the ones tied into the casinos of course.

Native American..... I was born here. My folks also , their folks as well. My great grand parents came west out of Kentucky
I figure I am a native.
