do you think you could get enough pressure out of a pressure Washer to blast sand? If so , I wonder how long it would take and if it would do the task? Or is hourleey the length of time?

I've got a 13hp @ around 3.5gpm.

Ok guys here is my update I promised! It worked fantastic! Took about 20 mins of blast time. The blowback is not a problem using the long gun set up. Used about one 50lb bag of media but I tried three types. Medium coal slag performance was not as good as GP sand or the paver sand.the GP sand worked as good as the paver sand but needs to be sifted. So while being more expensive the paver sand is the best. Lastly I bought a gallon of Klean Strip metal etching which is Phosphoric acid. I diluted with distilled water 3:1 water to acid. After blasting I sprayed the metal which phosphorites the metal preventing flash rust and also etches the metal with really good tooth structure. Really pleased how easy this was and can’t imagine how difficult sanding this would have been!!

Also this kit I got was from Amazon. It has a very long hose like 20 ft maybe. I am using a small pressure washer 3gal/min 3100psi and the trick is using the correct size nozzle that fits inside the unit that created the correct flow characteristics to be able to suck the media successfully.

Doesn’t the media go through the pump? If so, pump won’t last long.

No the pressure washer wand end seems to hook up to the sand blasting nozzle and the water blasting through the nozzle creates vacuum and sucks the media through the hose , mixes with the water, and then blasts what you are working on. At least that is how I see it working. ;)

Very cool set-up...might have to pick one up myself...thanks for trying it out and reporting back.

I too have been looking at buying one. I understood the issue to be having a PW that had a high enough output for it to work. Mine is gas powered 2600psi / 3.5gpm. A 5000psi kit wouldn't work? Right?

As I stated in the above post the trick to this is having the right nozzle to create the required vacuum to pull the media. This is a chart by General Pump who makes the nozzles and sells the kit. Its GPm in the center section. So this is how you choose your nozzle. It looks like the kit is rebranded by many companies. Also is a picture of the nozzle. Your set up might work fine as its close to my set up see above my specs.

The nozzle is stainless steel and the large black cone is tungsten carbide. This is more of an industrial type of tool that should last a long time.
