Seen this on the side of the road today. Just thought it was interesting. Has some rust. Just thought I’d share.

What I was wondering.... he’s got another mopar under the carport, so you’d think he’d know. Unless it’s had some work I suppose. Nobody answered when I called.

Haha well I wish I could, but I got my cow trailer hooked up to pick up a couple heifers after work. All my spare money has been going into cows.... plus with the rust on the lower quarters I’m not sure it’s worth 8,650. But I could be wrong.

It says 450+, so maybe a 451, 400 block stroker. Fuel injection too.

They’re high right now.... but depending on weight anywhere between 120-175 per hundredweight. So typically 750+ a yearling. I just happened to find a guy going to the sale barn willing to sell me a yearling heifer for 500. He’s got two of them so I’m going to see if I can get both for 800/900 this evening.

I’m by no means an expert. I just love having cows. If I had the space I’d love to do it full time. My paw in law runs about 400 head... I’m nickel and dime compared to that.

Western cows will be on the market again if they dont get some rain. Western Kansas has been dry this year.

Apparently west Texas has been too. I’ve seen several herd dispersals coming out that way. That’s rough to lose your livelihood that way.

Complete disperals are rare but do happen. They usually try to retain the best breeding stock. It takes years to build quality in a herd.
If money and land were not a problem bison would be the choise here. There are a few small and growing herds in the area.

I’ve only seen whole herds sold when say the old farmer dies and the family has no interest. I think having bison would be awesome. But my ultimate goal as far as cows go is to have registered Charolias.

Ya its bad out W Tx... i was talking to a guy that was interested in my Cummins for a ranch truck who has a ranch near Abileine he said he was moving 300 of his 600 head to Longview because of the drought.
Here in SE Tx we hardly got any rain Apr- May...but its been getting made up here in July which is odd, nothing making it that far north and west though...

                      Moving 300 head isn’t a small task.

Don't ever trust a Charlois, we haven't had a feedlot since I was a boy but I remember watching my Dad and grandfather try and corral those crazy bastards. Just getting into the lot was enough sometimes to drive them through the fence.

They have trouble calving also. Not my idea of a fun herd to have around. But some people are not happy unless everything's high maintenance.
I am to much the old range cow kind. Putun on pasture, make sure they have grass and water. Calf ok. Work on a couple times a year. Check and make sure they are still there.
Yes we still have cattle thieves.

I like their size and coloring. I realize there is more to it than that. I’d probably be better off with a Hereford or angus/ angus cross. I just feel like everyone around here who runs registered cattle has em. Charolias would be different. But right now I enjoy having any of them. The Holstein steer I have I raised off a bottle. I had another one but our freezer got empty....
