Self-Driving Uber Car Kills Arizona Pedestrian

Another NY slimes story with no information. Litany of past incidents. Sometimes jaywalkers get run over, and where was the human behind the wheel?

Smart people have seen what can happen when machines take control. Remember Maximum Overdrive?

Pedestrian crossing outside the crosswalk. Hard to fault the autonomous car or 'safety driver' at that point.

Simply change the punishment for J walking to "death".

Problem solved.

Not ready for prime time and neither am I. When I sit behind the wheel I wanna drive..

Those goddam Priuses are just as bad because unless you can see them you cannot hear them coming up behind you, I have almost been hit several times by these diabolical machines!

If I was in that car/suv, I'd be a rich mofo after suing the city of Tempe; Uber, and Volvo too for this nonsense! And I thought this happened in NYC, shame on me!

When I started riding bikes on the street, I learned pretty quick that quiet motorcycles were hazardous to your health so on went a set of straight pipes! Figured it they were good for a bike, then it had to be good for a car and have been running straights ever since.

This you?...

IMO it's a completely stupid concept in the 1st place...

Nobody but the damn ambulance chasers/lawyers will benefit
a shitload of lawsuits will be coming out of this lame a$$ ****,
big $$$ second party liability lawsuits too, mark my words...

The driver may have plausible deniability for any fault for the accident since the car did it.

Other side of coin. Bike loaded with bags, could be a homeless person. Many are impaired, dark conditions. The same night there were probably dozens hit by non autonomous cars.

So what...?
I detest the entire concept of self driving cars completely.

Roads and sidewalks were (and are) made for --people-- to decide how and when they get from one place to another.
IMO robots entering our roadways is a very big and imposing intrusion to a place that is fragile at best. Mixing them up on the road might be served by calling in all licensed drivers to update their qualification to deal with the new and unexpected situations.
As it is now we presume how the vehicle next to us will react as a kind of shared instinct being a driver.
In an emergency situation, many drivers can and do react as team members to help each other. Not knowing how a robot will help or hurt paints a different picture that needs to be learned.

when the wrongful death lawsuits start pouring in maybe they will realize what a stupid idea it is before they go bankrupt.
