The clamp on my steering coupler broke and I’m replacing it this weekend. Inside the coupler looks pretty void of grease. Didn’t know if there was a preferred grease to use or how much? Do I just pack it to the brim and put the new clamp and gasket on?

For the steering coupler, use a good quality NLGI Grade 2 EP grease, as specified in the factory service manual. Most name brand multi-purpose chassis grease or wheel bearing grease will meet the specification.

Although not specified as EP (extreme pressure), I switched to the following a few years ago for steering couplers:

Pack the coupler about 90% full to allow for the internal shoes movement and avoid possible pushing the grease out past the seal.
