Tach mounting

How are you guys mounting your tachs (smaller 3.75") to the steering column?

I drilled small holes and used a self tapping screw. I don't like the clamp look. Otherwise I'm not aware of an alternative to a hose clamp.

OK so it is with a clamp. I really don't want to drill joles in my column. I guess I can paint the clamp.

I mounted mine with the hose clamp but I painted it balck first then wrapped the wires with electrical tape.. It looks fine and you can not see the clamp...

I'll add this: if the tach is permanent, then why not drill?

It's just two little holes, and it can always be plugged with JBWeld and painted. Or a hose clamp can go over the holes if a new tach goes on and the old bracket isn't used.

What I considered, and rejected, was drilling in the dash or the pad. That seemed too much.

I hate seeing a nice car with a nice dash and a big 'ol tach bolted through the dash pad.

If you are THAT serious about having that huge tach and "racing", why not just remove the pad and lose that weight at the same time.

...or fab a 2 oz sheet metal bracket that goes under the pad.

If you are careful with the placement of the hose clamp and use the proper size, you can virtually make it dissapear.

I'm kinda a senior citizen,so I have the large easy to read tach:icon_thumright:
Also need to install some idiot lights,once the hammer drops,I don't see any gauges:headbang:

I drilled a small hole in the collom 5/16 and put a small bolt and nut in, Have to take the wheel off to do it.

Here's what I did. Maybe hard to see but I grabbed a piece of aluminum and with the help of my Bridgeport I widdled out this mounting bracket. I cut a hose clamp and screwed the ends to the block and painted it black. Later I folded up another piece of aluminum to mount my line lock light.
