OK folks,

I find myself wondering about changing little things on my '74... so here's one.

What would it take to change out the tail lights from stock (1st pic) to the '71 R/T style (2nd pic). Is the rear end so different between years that I'd have to replace more than just the lights/housings? Looks like the housings and the bezels need to be switched, yeah? I haven't started looking around, are these parts hard to get hold of?

The R/T housing is so unique... gotta get it!

Looking at that bumper, filler and the contours of the end of the bumper, I'd say you get to change it as well. There's only about 1/3 the distance between the top of the charger bumper shown and the trunk/body line, and it looks like the RT bumper has a wider opening.

Don't take that as gospel, just what it looks like from those two pics.

I can't offer any help but will say you now have me thinking about doing this as well.

I have test fit a set into my 74 bumper.
There is plenty of room, but the bolt holes don't align perfectly.
I have heard that they should, but mine sure don't.
It looks like there's room to either drill new ones, or possibly make a bar bracket.

Finding a set is interesting. Prices have gone up quite a bit since I got mine.
One set sold yesterday on ebay for $450 BIN, after no bids at $500.

I actually kind of like the 73/74 lights.
...much better than 71-72 standard lights IMO.
The louvered ones are neat though.

Looking on eBay, there's a whole used set for $750, and what they say is an original new one for $850. As in one side. Good thing I don't need these parts, I just like the look. I could buy a project car for the price of these damn lights. :angryfire:
