Ted Turner won't be down for breakfast

87 years is a good run, but he died from his Lewy body dementia, a progressive brain disorder?

R.I.P. “Mouth of the South.”

Watched a LOT of "Super Station" WTBS (at friends houses) in the early days of cable.

Dead at 87.

Ted being married to that commies loven' bitch Jane Fonda, for 10 years
it took a good 10 years off his life expectancy too... (she was hot then)

I met him in person in Orinda Calif., 1978-ish, at my then GF Ana's parents' house
(her dad owned Walnut Creek Cable Vision at the time, sold it to Comcast
took her & his family, moved to Juneau Ak, he started a cable co. there
)
Ted was Bob's (Ana's dad) 'alleged' best friend, they met in Santa Barbra
at some cable related business conference (IIRC)
He seemed like a normal guy, down to earth, even was interested in cars...
sort of tall & thin in stature, silver-grey hair, even at I assume he was like 47-ish...

Bob, Ana's dad was into vintage Vet's, Mercedese Benz,
he had a nice 66 Lincoln Conv. MkII (?)
they both came out & checked out my 68 Charger R/T, with drinks in hand...
Ted even sat behind the wheel of my car, said 'nice car'
then came out to look under the hood...
Bob really liked me, wanted me to move with/follow them to Alaska
to go to work for him...

At the time, I was still in JC & working for PG&E in Walnut Creek,
I often think about 'how different my life may have turned out',
if
I did follow them/Ana up there...

That's my Ted Turner story

As much as I hate Hanoi Jane they did a cool thing for a small town. I was watching a lot of oil wells as a geologist. So many, I bought a little 2 bedroom house in the town of Kiowa, Kansas. I think I paid $22K. The little town had one gas station, a couple of restaurants, and a movie theater. Turner owned a big ranch in the beautiful hills and valleys to the west of Kiowa. He sprung for a new digital movie system for our small-town theater.

These are the Gypsum Hills where Turner's ranch was. People think Kansas is just a flat wheat field. It's not. In the SE corner it's the Ozarks. This is more central south KS.

Kansas has a helluva lot oil and gas too. I think in Colorado one of our main exports is rocks. Our main import is Californians.

No one has mentioned that Ted was a very good sailor. He defended the Americas Cup in Courageous. He won the storm torn 79 Fastnet Race in his own boat Tenacious. 15 guys died during this race. I believe he also bought a lot of
land to help reintroduce buffalo. Captain Outragious he was called by some fellow sailors.

Call him what you will, he changed media.
