I had some electrical issues last sunday. 68 charger. Car was running for about 15 min. Went to shut it off. Starter kept running destroying positive cable at the battery. Replaced starter and still happened. Replaced starter relay. Now my cab and dash lights flicker, tach bounces. Cant be sure that this was not evident prior to issu with starter. This has a new dash harness. Thinking maybe ignition switch. Any and all help appreciated

Be super careful. Bulkhead connector needs a thorough going over. Ignition switch's are pretty cheap.....I'd get one just to eliminate that. Get an Co2 extinguisher for the car, and keep it handy. Starter running is an open circuit, so if the ignition were the cause, that will be easy to eliminate.

I can get to point to replicate. But now my cab lights are flickering and tach bounces. Electrical fuy said that he had re pinned wiring on ignition switch plug. I am going to check that and compare to images i have found. I.E. I am not an electrical person.

What we are trying to avoid at all costs is fire. Inspect every wire in the bay, and the bulkhead. Take pics before you disassemble the bulkhead connections....but you need to look there.

Could this be an intermittent issue. Seams that if i allow car to cool down i can re set the power cable on battery.

From the first description, I would suspect the ignition key switch. I would start by disconnecting the ignition key switch and check it with an ohmmeter.
Turning ignition 'off' from 'run' should never engage the starter. Starter circuit should only engage when the key is turned all the way to the right.

Had this happen on my 67.. the VR failed and went into full charge, melting the bulkhead, and burning the small yellow wire to the alt wire in the harness.. That was a bad day.
