Let me begin by saying I realzed that carburetion is vague to me. My question is how do you tune a carb for montain use? What are the fuel and idle settings. Do you have to change your mixtures every so often? I was just curious as to how this task is accomplished.

The pressure is lower at higher altitudes so less air will enter the engine. You will need to lean it out to compensate. Also advancing the timing will help too.
