'Thing' inside carb

Rebuilding the center carb on a 440 6-pack. Taking it apart I find this thing on the metering body. It's plastic, covers about 10% or so of the inlet. It's not in any of the shop manuals and I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

Anyone see this before?

yes it should be there
it is to prevent fuel sloshing out of the fuel vent
There are better ones but this is a cheap Holley one
