Certain photos always make me feel good. For example my 70 RR 440+6 four speed car.
Wish I still had it but how many of us say that, eh?
Is it still out there somewhere? VIN RM21N0E116640 (yes I know, it was originally a 383 car)
Cockpit. Note custom made pistol grip handle. I found a guy that did this as a hobby. He used hardened cherry wood and they were beautiful. They were an exact replica of the plastic originals and fit perfectly. I bought several sets and gave them out to my Mopar buds. Wish I still had some. :/
I miss the feel of that pistol grip handle when going through the gears. So many memories associated with that feeling. Anyone that has ever driven a car with this type pistol grip will understand.
I was wondering what it would look like with upper and lower panels painted orange !! Would have been nice if they could have carried the color across the dash.
One final photo of my 440+6 Mango Orange RR taking a First place GT Touring class win in the 100 mile Nevada Open Road Races.
That was definitely a good day for a 50 year old Mopar!
And interesting side note, the reason I chose #31 for my race number.....
Me and sister with Dad's race car back in the late 50's. My Dad used to race circle track and drags. Photo taken in Ventura, Calif around 1958. Makes me smile ;))
My '70 Road Runner ....taken in around 1990...close to where I live now....
Originally a 383 4-speed, bench seat & pistol grip car - updated with a 440 and 4BBL. The legendary 6BBL was just a pipe dream in those days. This car was an honestly fast car - could go in excess of 150mph on the open road. Put that to the test several times.....outran a 428 CJ '70 Mustang and a 427 '66 Impala SS (both side by side topped out at around 130mph)...and I saw them get smaller quickly in my mirror. The best part was that I was towing a trailer at the time - the Club BBQ trailer - sat below the height of the trunk lid. Managed a full 1/4 mile burnout in 1989 - luckily have that on video.
