Is there anyway to identify a torque converter for a 727 trans picked one up for a big block have a 383 but idk how to check to see if it's a 383 or 400 or 440 I would assume weights but idk

There is also one more variation for a 440 with heavy duty rods in 70-72. But this catches most. Have also seen some variation in the shape of the weight for some cast cranks. Most 383s should have no weights...unless your running a externally balanced cast crank.

Yes 71 2bbl 383 were the cast cranks.
You want to be sure it's the later 67 up convertor,
The weights can be removed.

Not if it's for a 66 with the original transmission...
It would have a 19 spline converter.

Might be other odd engine configurations out there.... we have a 71 383 stamped hp out of a charger, it has a cast crank. I don't think it had ever been apart.

Ok thanks guys is there a part number anywhere on it its aftermarket for sure and it's later then 66
