Only in Japan. Very hard to rebuild, as there are no parts. People have had gaskets made for them etc.
Apparently work very well with a huffer. Surprise, surprise.
I remember Bladecutter was talking about those as a possible engine for his VW bug. They were originally used only in the premium luxury car, the Century. Yes, all aluminum block, these engines started at a miniscule 2.6 litres and ended up at 4 litres before being replaced with a V-12 after 1997. The cars they came in were never exported to America. That engine (first post) would have been installed in something like this:
I knew a guy in Concord Ca. way back in the late 80s early 90s
not sure it was a 3.3ltr (?)
Bob; that had, one in a 'Vega' IIRC
don't remember what trans he had
he made an adapter for it nonetheless (GM manual trans probably)
mini-tubbed fatties out back narrowed 12 bolt. ladder bars (IIRC)
I remember it had custom headers & exhaust, sounded good too
I think it had an adapted Holley 390cfm 4bbl center squirter carb, on like a 2" spacer
& someone 'way back when', did custom grind cam for him, engine all polished up
it'd scoot pretty damn well too
painted & pinstriped up like a Cosworth Vega/black & gold
people always stopped to look at it at the shows, lil' Hemi drew them in
