Working on my 68 RR and the Trunk floor is next on the list. I'm torn between saving as much as I can or replacing everything with the 2 pc trunk floor. The center is pitted and there are a few holes on the right side, left side is perfect! Just hate to cut everything out. Here are some pics and the one with the tape is what I was thinking of doing. What do you all think? Thanks Anthony

Put a bright light under car then pictures near and far. Presume no gas tank in the car.

I would save it. Remove all of the paint and clean it. Next, sand all of the areas (inside and out) with 80 grit paper
so it's clean. Get an old fashioned soldering iron and some acid flux solder and solder the holes up. A soldering
gun won't make enough heat for this. You can heat the iron with a propane torch. Sand down the solder inside the
trunk so it's flush. Once you do this, the rust won't come back. Wash all of the black flux off with warm water and
scotch-Brite. Now put one coat of self etching primer or Epoxy primer on the floor. Follow this with two or three
coats of Polyester High build primer such as Evercoat Super Build Primer. I used a piece of 3/8", and 7/16" wooden
dowell rod to stick DA paper to and sand all of the grooves smoothe. everything else can be da sanded or blocked.
Believe me, you can do it!

Wow that's a Great idea never thought of that! I could fix the rest was just worried about the center section.

That turned out Awesome! Tank is still in, I'll pull it tomorrow and wire wheel trunk and see what it looks like.

That's next on the list still working on 50years of holes in the firewall!

Thanks for the advice! Wish I would have asked this question before I bought the 2pc. Trunk floor. Oh well

Yeah, that's a lot of labor! If you go to Home Depot and by a gallon of Phosphoric acid by Kleen Strip
you can spray it on and it will neutralize the rust in all of the nooks and crannies. Then rinse it with water.
All of the trunks are rusty and pitted because they leaked.

Thanks for the information! Hopefully I can get mine to look as good as yours!
