I was poking around my trunk today and I noticed something very weird. The right side has blue body color painted undercoating sprayed on. The left side and underside of the dutchman panel / package tray has this black looking spray. Did someone spray 2/3 of the trunk sometime in it's life with some kind of protectant?

When dealing with cars this old, cars that have had multiple owners....Who knows if one of them stopped off at Pep Boys and bought a few cans of spray-bomb undercoating. Technically, what is in the trunk is known as sound deadener. They used the same stuff in the wheelwells. Undercoating on the floorboards was never painted.

The blue has better patina and matches with other parts of the trunk. Is that the original color? My 62 in coral gray was coral gray deadener in the trunk. I think they just spray over it.

Yes, my car was originally blue.
I noticed that the 1968 Plymouth Belvedere on another thread appears to have similar black applied as well. That car is supposed to be an unmolested survivor. Here are pictures...
