Turn/Flasher Circuit

I am currently working through some wiring issues with my turn/hazard flasher circuit.

Here’s all relevant info…

New American Autowire harness.

All new Dapper Lighting LED bulbs and headlights. Plus LED flasher modules for both hazard and flasher.

Both high and low beam circuits are on separate relays.

Switchback halos are connected to the turn/flasher circuit.

I sold my only 69 flasher switch. Thought I had another one hidden away. So I took one out of a 67 Barracuda.

Problem is as soon as I connect the battery the turn/hazard lights come on solid when the brake pedal switch is depressed. Flashes when it’s not.

The steering column is connected to main harness.

Any insight into how to solve this problem is greatly appreciated.

That’s the reason why on original harness rear and front circuits are separated with its own circuit for each corner.

Untill 69 you could get brake lights still with hazzards on. That changed on 70, disallowing brakes circuit from rear blinkers when these are on. This was made with a built in hazzard system into the TS assembly at column

There is something wrong splicing the new harness into the old switches system

The hazzard switch on your car gets both brakes and hazzard flasher circuits. Somehow your are feeding front corners with the brake lights signals too.

I have checked allways this circuit when somebody gets a problem on board but have to refresh it on my mind. Will recheck and back to the thread

Ok here is the deal with original 69 switch

Red wire comes from hazzard flasher. That’s the input

White wire runs to turnings switch and shares brakes circuit which comes from brakes pedal switch on same white wire network.

Light green and tan wires are fronts (and cluster hence why two wires each on diagram) blinkers. These two prongs at switch should be isolated internally when on and when off from the white wire prong to save from the issue you are having… separated circuits between rears and fronts. Fronts separated also when off to save from retro feed both fronts when giving turnings (not important when on)

When you activate flasher, front blinkers are feeded through each one of the corners wires, but rears are feeded throught the brakes circuit. This signal reachs the turning switch and there its spreaded to each one of the rear corners.

This is the reason why up to 69 you can get brakes still with hazzards on… both signals (hazzards and brakes) are spliced together before the turning switch.

You can get either a bad splice job, or a bad flasher switch

Reminds me of my old 1967 Coronet where turning on the hazards, putting turn signal to either turn position and holding brake would back feed the power to the ACC circuit and the radio would turn on without a key.

My dad had a 68 Satellite that did the same exact thing! I don't remember how I discovered that, but guess I spent too much time sitting in the car when I was a teenager!
 
I have never had this problem with my M&H wiring and stock lighting.
