    So since I'm running all brand new wiring, I bought a bunch of Harnesses from Year One(M&H) and Mopar. I'm wasting a bunch of time trying to figure out what all these connectors are for and where they go. My goal for this guide is to provide a easy, picture diagram for those looking to hook up their car fast, and effectively with little to no time wasted. With each pick I'll provide the wire colors to the connector as the resolution may be off on some of your screens so you know exactly what your looking at. Keep in mind that these are aftermarket harnesses and may not coincide with the original colored wires, and that's where I need your help. I'm gonna keep this updated as best as possible, What I need/want from the mopar community is to help me identify the connectors, and what they plug into. Just type pic# in the reply and type A) what its for, B) what it plugs into. Also, as I have found out already, do not throw away your old harnesses, some of the wires from your old harness may have to be reused with the new harness. If I had made a mistake, please let me know and I'll correct it asap.


    ***update (1) had to switch the brown and red wire leads on the windshield wiper motor harness as they were backwards when plugged into the bulkhead****

    ***update (2) M&H for some reason moved the horn wiring from the lamp harness to the engine harness, and they moved the low brake switch wiring from the engine harness to the lamp harness. So if one wanted to run a mix of old harnesses and new, you would have to change these wires in the actual harness themselves to get it to work.***

    B) harness gets an extra pigtail to reach the buzzer mounted on dash frame between glovebox and ashtray. Buzzer gets a plug like the blinker flashers ones.

    B) It is used for the little lite that shines from the steering column to the ignition key hole when the door is opened.

      BIG NOTE TO NOTE!!!

      on your pics 13 and 14... you show two spade terminals ( both labeled 3 ) one is solid black and one black traced white AND BOTH says cluster ground. NO.

      Soild black wire is POSITIVE source for voltage limiter... plugs straight to voltage limiter double prong

      Black traced white which is a wider terminal... plugs into the voltage limiter chassis prong... is correctly a ground

        M&H emailed me back about this and that was their answer, so it can be used for more than one option?

        yes, you could get in fact those feeds full in 71, a bit less in 72. 73/74s got less accesories options and they got just one mold instead two on Harness. All extra stuff to be plugged on those molds USUALLY match the color of the molds on harness. You can see it on the A/C clutch feed of the pic 50 ( correcting my notes, is not 49 like I mentioned is the plug on pic 50 ), male is molded in yellow same as the harness mold... its a 20 amps fused source BTW

        The M&H harness just had the black wire with white tracer and I inserted it into my old 71 heater harness, was that the right thing to do? Or should I just use the new AC/heater harness instead even though i don't have AC?

        You did it right... heater and A/C harnesses are separated from the underdash and just linked ( according with your car equippment ) with Underdash harness there to switch input and on bulkhead for blower source green wire ( and blue wire clutch if AC ). If you had A/C must use the empty cavity on the A/C harness ( pic 49-2 ) to insert there the black traced wire left alone on Underdash harness, just like you did with Heater harness

        is that what the long orange one is for (pic27#3) do you mean center console or glove box ? This wire is from my old harness

        Orange circuit is for cluster dimmed sources, Batt source ( glove box light ) is pink circuit. Center console is the one I meant which dims out the same than cluster, and also radio faceplate ( hence the orange wire arriving to Radio )

        Yes, separated and weird to find option on B bodies, more common on C bodies

        As far I have read, Your car is heater... won't use the A/C harness, you can sell it or send it back, if posible

        yeah, well you can just cut the Tach harness/wire just right before the grommet coming with it, attach an spade terminal on it and insert it on bulkhead matching that gray traced black wire. Its visible on plug, on one of the corners.

        What you found on the M&H harness is what 71 diagrams on FSM shows ilustrated

        curious about how would it work this way if their switched on the plug in harness?


        They who ? Factory or M&H ? LOL... you meant the underdash harness they make/sent what doesn't match their own engine bay harnesses LOL ?

        BIG NOTE TO NOTE!!!

        Black traced white which is a wider terminal... plugs into the voltage limiter chassis prong... is correctly a ground

        The answer I have is again what M&H gave me. Its the prong on the side, not the ones on the back right?

        OK full exposition of the deal:

        voltage limiter have three prongs on bakelite face ( dunno if call it front or back LOL, because on standard cluster they are used backwards LOL )... two of them are actually an U shaped sheet. These two get the POSITIVE SOURCE from harness and the condenser noise supressor which is attached with a phillips screw on back of cluster.. 3rd prong is the 5 volts output for gauges... it gets a small pigtail which sources all gauges on black wire.

        the black traced wire SHOULD be a wider terminal to be plugged on the prong ( and bracket at the same time ) welded to voltage limiter "back case". This is made intentionally to NOT BE ABLE TO ATTACH by mistake the positive wire from harness on it ( would get a short as soon you put the key in RUN or ACC with this connected wrong ), since the prong on limiter case is also wider, matching the ground source plug

          is correct, between 71 and 74 several changes were made on wiring location: starter relay, horn, washer, brake pressure fail light were the ones usually moved out... but as far I could tell from the pics you got correctly 71 setup... hard to see every detail though

            I have a question.. Will have to follow up with a picture. I have a plug that comes out of the column it has a 3 pin connector its about 1/2 inch wide. When I was installing the harness I could not find a place for it to plug into the dash harness. I want to say the 3 wires are grey,violet and green. Don't quote me on that Ill get a picture later today and edit this post.

            MaMopar began to make somekind universal replacement parts able to fit on several bodies at the same time. Cornering lights are option on Chryslers and Imperials, maybe some Dodge and Plymouth C bodies too? Can’t tell. But the rest of wiring is the same for all bodies, simply won’t use what is not optioned even provisions are there.
