I'm restoring the interior of my 1970 Coronet 500. Fortunately, between two sets of seats, I was able to put together a set of seat frames and foams that will work. I say, "fortunately", because the bucket seat back foams are not available for this car, and it seems that there are many other cars for which you can't buy foams.
I am making 3D scans of my usable foams before I reupholster the seats, and I'm considering working on developing a flexible manufacturing process for making foams that are otherwise unavailable. I'm doing this mostly as a challenge to myself, to see if I can do it, but I wonder how many people would appreciate being able to get new foams that are currently unavailable. Most old foams are only worn out on one side, so if one side is substantially intact, it could be used to make a new one. If I do this, my motivation wouldn't be to make a lot of money, but to help out fellow enthusiasts.
Any thoughts on how much interest there might be in custom reproduced seat foams?
