I'm restoring the interior of my 1970 Coronet 500. Fortunately, between two sets of seats, I was able to put together a set of seat frames and foams that will work. I say, "fortunately", because the bucket seat back foams are not available for this car, and it seems that there are many other cars for which you can't buy foams.

I am making 3D scans of my usable foams before I reupholster the seats, and I'm considering working on developing a flexible manufacturing process for making foams that are otherwise unavailable. I'm doing this mostly as a challenge to myself, to see if I can do it, but I wonder how many people would appreciate being able to get new foams that are currently unavailable. Most old foams are only worn out on one side, so if one side is substantially intact, it could be used to make a new one. If I do this, my motivation wouldn't be to make a lot of money, but to help out fellow enthusiasts.

Any thoughts on how much interest there might be in custom reproduced seat foams?

I bought a set of 1970 high back bucket bucket seat foams for a road runner about a year ago (including the backs). If I remember correctly, there were 2 types available. One was a “universal” that also fit E-bodies or something and the other one was 70 B-body specific

Looks like you can only get the 70 Coronet bucket seat foam bottoms.

My upholstery guy can take blocks of foam and a hot knife and contour a cushion. He takes thin layers of memory foam and glues it in place to fill out where needed. Looks great and sits comfortably.

I believe the back seat is also a universal kit. When making auto foam sets it’s all about the foam density. Too soft is unsupportive and won’t hold trim shape. Too firm and you sit too high and get butt sore.

Maybe look here before yo go to all that trouble !!!

Thanks. The description says, A,B, E body, but the foam shown in photo isn't right for a Coronet. I can tell that the center part is too narrow, and the bolsters are too wide. It might fit the seat frame, but you'd need to use different upholstery. The other foams on that site don't look right either.
