It’s a recirculating air system. No carb vapors to reach inside. Other question was is there an increase in power? Well it really does feel like it pulls harder through out the rpm range. The big surprise is not some of, but all of the pre detonation, or pinging has gone away on 92 octane. My timing was right on the edge when engine was hot and would ping on hard acceleration. Not any more, runs at 185 and inlet air at surface of air cleaner is 90 degrees. Power, no ping, pump gas, I’m happy! Thanks for all the great comments and likes.. you all at FBBO are the best.

Great Job. Yes it is proven that cool air will help performance. Believe it or not for $10 on a Slant I was racing it picked up 4 tenths. Not as nice as yours but it worked. IMG_0434.jpg

I wish I could get the cold air intake that the factory put on
the NASCAR edition white 66 hemi Charger. Factory air cleaner on my car sucks in hot under hood air.

Didn't even think about doing that when I was running my /6 car....but it was consistent as could be so it really didn't matter. The biggest change was going to a 4.10 gear from a 2.94 and the ET went from 19.66 to 18.10.

What do you mean not as nice, you did it yourself and it looks great. One of the best jobs is to say you did it with your own hands, and it works. Bravo on the DYI.

I think I actually had a pair of pants in the 60s that looked like that. Lost in space was so cool for the time. Was in love with wills sister! Even his claws are painted PP1 bright red.

ive been thinking of a cold air intake for my 66 Coronet

can you provide pics of what is happening on the interior side of air duct work?

what is the sound like on the interior?

                        thanks,

There is no sound inside, the air is drawn from the vent at the base of the windshield. There is a rib weld line on the firewall that separates the inside foot well from the upper outside air vent area. With vintage air conditioning, they draw air from inside the car, resurculating the cabin air. So no chance of vapors or backfire into car. I cut a 3” hole just above, and 6.5” in from edge of hood, above the weld line that sticks out about 3/4 of an inch, at an angle. From there the intake tube pass”s through the cut upper firewall and makes a turn toward the vent opening at the base of wind shield. Here are some crude drawings and a couple of pics. I hope this helps. Spectre has all the tubing and couplings and fittings you’ll need. I just found a duel snorkel air cleaner at swap meet for 20 bucks, painted black, decaled, and tried to make look fake stock.

awesome. thank you for the detail!

i was thinking you had a K&N filter where the glove box would be

is that 3” tubing in the engine bay and in that upper outside vent area?
