VIN # Question

Hello all,
I'm going to look at a 1976 Cordoba this week. the seller doesn't know much about it. Does anyone know what digit of the VIN is the engine, and what the codes are for the different engines? I believe they all had the 727 transmission? Thank you,

N is 400, K 360, P 360 HP. The 360 K had a 904B overdrive transmission.400and 360HHP had a 727.

5th digit is the engine code.

I know I lost my mind a long time ago, but.. I don't recall a 360-4v HP engine available in a Cordoba ( except the 300). Nor, a 904 trans in it either. And, there was 904 OD trans ? Then again, 60's flashbacks sometimes get in the way....

It's referred to as a 904 B, not the 904 we all are familiar with. It had a lockup torque converter, and was bigger. I had a couple 360 cordobas with the 727, but they all had the tow package, coolers, and 9 1/4 rear. Every 400 I had came with a 727.

Of all the dobas we serviced in the garage back then, I don't recall a 360-4v, and all had 727's that I remember... I know the lockup trans, not the 904 OD.

what was it called? it wasn't a 727 behind the 360 2bbl. I owned several four barrel 360's, 76 models. I had a 78 magnum 360, no 727 trans. it had a square base and oil pan, with lock up. not a 727. just asking, My 77 cordoba is all big block and 727, no questions there.

I went to see the car. It has a 360 2bbl. According to what I could decode from the fender tag it has an 'A999' transmission, I guess that is a "medium duty" verses the "heavy duty" 727.
