I think someone mentioned this awhile back but haven't been able to find the thread after doing several searches. Anyways, I removed all the paint from my car years ago and then sprayed primer on most of the car which is actually pretty much still there. It will be removed before a reprime. Question is, after removing the surface rust that has showed up with vinegar and water, what is good to use as a final treatment before applying primer? And I'm thinking about using epoxy primer when the metal prep is done. A buddy mentioned Rust Kon which seems to only come in rattle can but that might do ok for spot work....?

I use the PPG Metal Wash DX579 then the conditioner DX520. Works well, but you should paint/prime shortly afterwards. It will leave a fine zinc coat. I Pretty much always use the DP40 Epoxy Primer afterwards.

an old "How to" thread:

Also used the picklex 20 several times with no issues thus far. Here's a little comparison chart if you want to take a look at several different brands capabilities/limits.
