While Going Through The FBBO Forums Tonight, I Thought Back To My Youth And Tried To Remember Some Of The Baddest B-Body Mopars On The Planet. One Of The Fastest And Most Lethal B-Bodies On Earth Was Tritak & Morgan's 1963 D-S/A And SS/FA Plymouth Station Wagon "The War Wagon"--426 Max-Wedge--Aluminum Front-End Car From Clifton, New Jersey. This Car Single Handedly Was Responsible For Trailering More Chevies, Fords And Even Some Mopars, Than Any Other S/S Plymouth Around At That Time. It Truly Was A Holy Terror! Pete Tritak And Partner Bill Morgan Put Together One Of The Most Competitive Station Wagons Ever Seen At An NHRA Event. Racing In The Early Days Of Super Stock, The Tritak Performance 63' Super Stock Plymouth "War Wagon" Held Its Own Against Some Of The Best Competition The Class Had To Offer, Including Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins. It Was An NHRA National Class Record Holder!
Great little story, I'll have to do more research on the "war wagon". What I wouldn't do for an aluminum front end.
Great story, I keep trying to place this car but cant honestly, i have heard of the Mopar war wagon, cool! Thanks for posting it..
Last Paint Job I Ever Saw Was Red & White Stripes..Kinda Like The Candymatics Were Painted! The Only S/S Wagon I Ever Saw That Pulled The Front Wheels!
Another Potent Max-Wedge Of The Day Was This '63 S/S Plymouth Of Philadelphia's Joe Daugherty's "Tightnuts" A Great Name For A Car! A Many Time NHRA National Class Record Holder. I Remember Sitting In The Staging Area At York In Rigor Mortis Watching Joe's Wife Or Girlfriend Changing Plugs In That Max-Wedge! Great Pair Of White Jeans!:sideways tongue:
I love waggons something about them. I have heard of the War Waggon before. Was this in a MOPAR mag some time ago as well? I'm trying to think of where I heard of it. Great pics keep them coming.
There's a '63 Belvedere Wagon for sale on the Seattle Craigslist right now (not mine). Looks pretty good. Love the front ends on em'. http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/cto/3095102007.html
It looks pretty good in the pics. I wonder what it looks like underneath and under the carpets. Might be a good project.
I'm in LOVE!!! There is just something about a waggon. I found a 66 Dart Waggon here locally and I keep thinking a 360 in it or a 383 in it and man it would be a sleeper for sure.
I agree with you guys about the wagons.. There is a couple members here that have some beauties... I found this video, I hope its the same "War Wagon" I was looking for one to get a couple more looks at it, Its called Super Stock Max Wedge Match Race - Candymatic Vs. War Wagon.. You guys will have to be the judge on it but enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvn6k1OBJk8&feature=player_embedded
These kinds of pictures are exactly what I am looking for! I am trying to come up with a font/style of the lettering used on these cars back in the day when a dealership would campaign a car. Keep the pictures coming! I only wish I had been alive back then to see these monsters roar down the strip!
