Looking for original block for my car... J8A173918. 426 Hemi. Thanks!
Did 1968 cars put the bin on the block? I though that started in 69 but could very well be wrong here. Thought it was date code only up to but not including 1969. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong I’m sure/hope
I think starting sometime in the 1986 models, the engine, transmission , had serial of some sort to match the vehicle serial # or fender tag. Can’t remember where I got the information from.
Looked it up, 1968 passenger side of B and RB blocks, have a pad just above the pan slightly back of the motor mount. This pad will have a stamping which relates to the body.
My car has the original trans with the vin...Dodge must have been doing it, saw a pic of the vin on the block of a 68 hemi bee. I have no idea when and where the block for my car was removed, but I suspect it would be in the northwest part of the country, if it even still exists. Thanks to anyone who may be checking around.
1968 Blocks will have the VIN stamped on the upper rear rail where the bellhousing bolts up to the block. Another way to state this is to say the stamping will be right behind the oil pressure sender. 1966-67 blocks are only date coded. 1969 and up blocks it will be stamped on the machined pad on the passenger side of the block adjacent to the oil pan rail.
I saw a craigslist ad yesterday for a 68 hemi block in So Cal. I don't see any vin information but the post number is 7283990774 Good luck.
