Weird Problem w/Passenger Door Key/Lock Rod???

I’m reassembling my passenger door after many years. The thin rod that connects the key cylinder to the lock mechanism cannot attach. The larger/flat rod that connects door handle push button to the lock mechanism is in the way. I can’t unlock the passenger door with the key. I’m not sure it ever worked (???). I can’t position the key cylinder rod in front of the larger/flat rod. What am I overlooking?

Worked great! The door button/lock handle was backwards, not upside down, but it now works great…maybe the first time this lock ever worked. It’s fixed
