I’ve tried twice now with two failures. The first time I ordered Moog U joints they were in correct because the company selling them had them listed wrong in their catalog. They returned these no problem. They looked up and found the second set of Moog which are Moog #317. Those arrived and no luck. The problem is the bearing cap doesn’t fit correctly into the driveshaft. It’s way too loose and just slips right through. Before I order another pair can someone please tell me what the correct part is? Thank you

Tad

8 3/4? Which center section are you dealing with? There is the bog yoke and small yoke for those years if someone swapped the center out for a 489 or something like that situation. Stock joint should be a 7260 joint. 489 carrier would have a 7290 joint which is bigger I believe 2 5/8" vs. 2 1/8"....

I have a 489 with the 7260 new from Cass. I just measured the inner diameter of the bearing area and it’s 1.120 in.

Saw these and the diameter of the bearing cap is 1.125.

You sure it isn't a 7290 on a 489 carrier? That is what would have been standard.....What is the distance from outer cap/groove to outer cap/groove on the yoke? The cap size on the 7290 is 1.125 and the 7260 is the smaller 1.078. If your span is 2 5/8" and the cup size is 1.125 then you have a 7290 yoke which would be standard issue on a 489 carrier.

Moog #s are 315 for 7260 and 316 for 7290 IIRC. RUFFCUT

The reason I ask is his website only lists 7290 and 1350 u joint yokes for the 489 third member he sells. And if it turns out to be a 7290 joint then check your driveshaft first before ordering that joint......if its a small yoke on your driveshaft but a 7290 yoke on the rear end you will have to order the conversion joint which has the small span smaller diameter cups on one side, and the larger cups and span on the other to make the combination work.

This is what I got with it.

Do you have the paperwork from Cass? Sure looks like a 7290 yoke to me. That is why your 7260 joint wont fit the cup span as its only 2 1/8" wide and made for the smaller yoke. Now what is your driveshaft end like? If it is setup for an original u joint it may be the 7260 smaller span which means you will have to use the conversion u joint. I have that one in my Charger as the driveshaft was from a 383 car but I used a 489 pinion and yoke.

Driveshaft is definitely larger also. Both of the U joints sets that I have ordered have been two small diameter and slide right into the driveshaft. It was a an original 489 case so I’m positive it’s the larger ones now.

I just want to say thank you for your help. Getting this car back together has been fun but also very frustrating. There was one person at the auto parts store that I used to love seeing because SHE knew everything about Mopars. Yes it was a girl and she would know exactly what to look for and what part number. Unfortunately she’s gone now.

Np problem man, glad to help. We have all been there at one time or another for sure!

That is not even close to correct. The stock U joints for a 489 case use a strap type. Those are for something like 1330 or 1350 style joint. Get your measurements and call Cass.
I appreciate your feedback. I need to vent for a minute. Are we allowed to swear on here? I’m not sure but I sure am ******* tired of the quality of product and inability to supply the correct products. I swear almost every single company I have ordered from has screwed something up or their product hasn’t worked like they said it did. WTF. What has happened to quality and integrity? It is definitely not something that people care about anymore. I feel like it’s all about pumping out as much crap as possible rather than providing a few super high-quality parts. Thank you for letting me vent
