What exactly did Mt. St Helens do to cars? "440 cops cars"

Interesting article. I heard about the Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980 for sure, but as I was living in Milwaukee, WI at the time, it had no impact on me that I can remember. It had no impact on the car I was driving at the time either, which was a 1977 Plymouth Arrow with the 2 liter 4-cylinder. I don't even remember if we had a dust fall-out in the area. It's probably just as well as I had just started a new job that year and had limited funds for anything like food and shelter, let alone paying for an engine tear down if my car had crapped out on me. It was a nimble little car, with a 5 speed manual transmission, and served me well for a few more years until I bought a 1982 Dodge 400 (a K-car with spats)

I was driving east on that day in my 68 hemi rr on the way to work. In my mirror I saw the eruption . 185 miles later I could still see it in the mirror. A truly big deal to experience.
