Hello everyone. I'm pounding out a dent adjacent to the wheel well of my unmolested 68 Charger. I would like to replace the coating that has been ruined by the body work. Where can I buy it? Any tips on how to apply it would be appreciated too.

It's basically an undercoating type sound deadner. Spray on bedliner will work well but maybe not match the texture exactly. Others may have used something that replicates the texture better.

sound deadener....... I found lizard skin closely matches the texture (others have used other stuff)...... you can layer the lines like they did, but you need to wait for it to dry........ you may be able to apply something with a small roller, spraying that stuff gets everywhere, mask accordingly

actually, if I was going to match the layered "lines" and the factory pattern....... I'd probably build them quickly with a little body filler, then bury them in the texture

and the lizard skin is dark grey, not black..... which is nice

I’d love to see the gun that sprayed that original schmutz. Must have been a cannon.

I used a SEM sprayable seam sealer. I did not want to use an asphalt-based product inside the car.

I propped up that cardboard mask a couple inches from the panel to give the texture a faded edge rather than a hard line.

3M had (has) a product called Body Shultz. And has a sprayer for it. Used it back in the 80's. Just a thought.
