Flex plate , it connects the crank shaft to the torque converter

Awesome, that's $50 or more I saved not buying one! I'm media blasting the rust away. Can I paint it without hurting anything? Or should I buy another since this one maybe weakened by the rust?

If it's pitted I wouldn't use it. If the engine is putting out a lot of power, you will be better off to use a B&M flex plate.

General surface rust etc? Shouldn't hurt it. What kind of media blasting are you talking about? Bead blasting is the only thing I would use on it. If it's sand blasted, do it lightly.

I'll always promote molasses dip if you can wait a couple weeks. that way you loose nothing other than rust...

Bead blasting won't hurt it. Personally I'd skip the paint and just shoot it with some WD40. Also make sure the ears aren't bent. These things are very susceptible to damage.

I wouldn't paint around the bolt holes. Don't want the bolts backing out because they didn't get a good bite because of paint.

Thanks for all the appreciated help! They came back from the blaster (everything is in a coat of gray, so I'm not sure what they use, but I will ask - and now all numbers and markings are visible). No damage, and looks good! However, I bought a new B&M to be safe and sure. This one I shall sell or put up for just the cost of the ride.
