Does anybody have any specific and real preferences when building an engine?
1. Hex head fasteners?
2. 12 Point fasteners?

i do what is the most maintenance friendly, especially for stuff that might need a repair on a road trip. i go out of my way to avoid allen head screws. hex head is pretty much a no brainer to carry tools for or borrow.

I like 12 pt fasteners on my project cars, usually in ARP Stainless Steel too,
much better hardware quality, rolled threads, but usually need a washer under them
& just use anti seize on them, if they are going into aluminum or cast iron,
so you don't gal the treads up ever {probably a good idea on any hardware you choose},
it saves on the hassles/issues latter & 12 pt looks way better IMHFO,
unless it's a full on concourse restoration, then use the proper style hex bolts,
To me plenty of 12 sockets, swivel sockets & box wrenches etc. that fit no problem,
usually with far more room in tight areas too, it's worth it too me anyway...

My $0.02 cents for what it's worth...LOL

but what the hell do I know

Thanks Budnicks!
Great "points" you mentioned...
Also, I think the 12 Point is a smaller HEAD and better suited for tight applications, size restrictions etc.

I use hex on most everything except headers and intake, then I use 12 pt.

I went out of my way to use the stainless steel 12 point ARP's they do make a great bolt.
