Ok....I finally got brackets for my LA 318 so I can mount the power steering pump and alternator on the engine.

My question...

What did a '65 Coronet 273 car use for the power steering pump? I don't have a pump but I do have the steering gear on the car .

Was one pump preferred over another? How about hoses? Are they the same between pump brands?

You can follow this rehab deal on YouTube... " 413 Mopar" is my ID.... Please excuse the old bast*Rd on the video...it's my illegal alien clone.

I believe it would have been a Federal. But...what year of LA 318 brackets did you get? Later ones, not sure what the cutoff was, would be a Saginaw pump. And you may run into a pulley alignment issue too. If your car didn't come with p/s, it would be very beneficial to get pullies, brackets etc off of a donor so you know they match up with each other. Plus early LA engines, can't remember the cutoff again, used a shorter water pump than later which gives you another bracket/pulley package difference.

I think the donor engine was from the 90's... Forgot to look.

It has the long water pump...I have three of those in stock. My engine is a '73.

I believe you are correct on the Saginaw pump. Available pretty cheap as they are abundant at the parts houses and online.

I think a GM pump will bolt to my brackets. I have a GM friend who may have a pump for a trade...I have some old Chevy parts he was drooling over...

Back again...

Looking at photos of Cardone Saginaw pumps it appears some pumps are "clocked" to mount vertically and some at an angle pointed away from the engine.

I think I need a vertical mount for my small block.

Now to the hose... Looks like most have a straight hi pressure port in the rear of the pump. That should work. But what about the return line...I'm seeing a ton of short, long, angled and 90* return fittings on Saginaw pumps. Likely not as important as the pressure side.

Who has a recommendation for the correct pump on my '74 318/'65 Coronet setup?

Update...

I found a closeout Cardone pump for a D150 with a 318 engine. $25.00 without any core charge...good deal.

I'll give this a try...should be ok.

Now I need a pulley, a few hoses, bolts...yada yada yada...
