I bought a 3 3/8 tach for my '62 and I'm trying to find a good mounting spot. On the top of the column is too tight. (steering wheel interference) Man, I don't want to drill any holes in the dash. Maybe under the dash would work. Just not real visible. I did see one mounted on the hump.
So, any suggestions and pictures? Please only 1962 - 1965

This is the Bosch that I bought.

mounted to the hood perhaps?

could make a clip and mount the tach to that and clip it to the cowl vents??

IDK Kid, just spitballin here...

I mounted mine to a screw that holds the dash pad trim in place. Just turned the tach mount upside down.

Mounted my old Dixco tach under the top edge of the dash pad. Flatened the bottom of the mounting bracket flange in a vise & just pushed it up under the dash pad edge. It is a nice tight fit without drilling any holes or messing the stock dash up. I had the same tach mounted this way under my dash pad in my 1973 340 Duster for 19 years & it never slid loose.

Hey, 20 years ago I probably would do just that, and I have! '68 GTO. I think I'll keep this one inside. I'm liking MW 413s idea.
Good spit ball though!

No spit balls here, but here is another idea....maybe the wrong location, but my buddy "MowPar" had a custom made under-dash box made up for his aftermarket stereo head-deck, and some gauges....

Fascia is crafted out of another dash unit from the same model car - 1965 Belvedere

Mine is not real big as its an older Motorolla tach. But you can see I mounted it to the steering wheel and the only bad part is it blocks some of the speedo. Ron

Her is how I did mine. Just made a bracket for the Tach, oil pressure and temp gauges. Used some current holes under the dash. Bent the bracket at a 70 degree mounting angle works great and can see pretty easy.

I thought the same way about drilling my dash. But the I thought this car is just a 65 Coronet they made thousands ! If I want to change I can get another dash..

I was looking at that tach! Decided to go with a white needle to match the guages I found. Changed the amp.that came with them to a volt meter. Nice large gauges, nice retro look...

The '62 - '63 Plymouths have a little room there, in front of the speedometer. 383man did the same mount. The '62 Dodge doesn't and you end up with steering wheel interference. Rats!
I'm probable going with under the dash, next to the other gauges. Sorta like RVW did.

Thanks guys for the replies! And keep them coming! Dashes on these 60's cars are always cool to look at!

Me likey SONNY ****!! I had the big tach with a hole in the dashpad, I have a hard time looking at ANY gauges when my foot is on the floor,so now a shift light on top of the column and tach is part of the dash.

Some older pic's with the monster tach, and new ones without the tach & cowl gauges than went bye-bye and the new Joe Succi dash pad.

I mounted mine like I did in the 60s. I like the more 'industrial' look of the eyebrow over the gauge cluster, sans padding and upholstery. I guess it depends on whether you want it in your line of sight or not.
