Why lump the 71-74's together?

I really don't see why the 71-72 B bodies and the 73-74 B bodies are lumped into one category. The 71-72 is a totally different car than a 73-74. The 73-74's are a transitional design that kind of resembles the 71-72, but has more in common with the 75-79 B bodies as far as suspension and driveline goes.
Why not give the 71-72 their own section, and the 73-74 their own?
66-67 have their own section, and they have more in common with the 68-70, than the 71-72 and 73-74's do.

Likely because the factory itself considered the 73-74 design to be just a facelift of the 71-72. Many components like doors and glass are pretty much the same.

      The overall effect is similar.

Um No. The doors do not interchange. Not even close.

The fenders, doors, quarters are totally different, as is the entire suspension, front frame rails and much more.

True with the exception of the quarter glass. Many different scenarios going on there.

Dodge vs Plymouth, hardtop vs coupe, SE vs non SE (73-4), 71 vs 72, 72 vs 73/74 and so on.

Why bitch about something so petty? There's no point in making a different section for the two groups as there not very popular to begin with!

And if you want to get technical you can put most of the parts from one to the other ! Just because it's not everything doesn't make them different! A 69 and 70 charger are basically the same but the front sheet metal is completely diff doesn't make them different cars !
It's the same style idea . Yeah they changed a few things body lines and upgraded the suspension stuff like that but in the end there basically the same freaking car !

71's and 72's were the ones for factory race car development but the oil embargo stopped all factory plans over night. Mopar action had a very good article on this subject but I don't remember the issue# but Richard Ehrenberg would know. Sad deal, Mother Mopar had some very active plans slated for these cars and the new heavy low deck 400 block. I read somewhere that new large port head castings and 3.91 stroke crank and 6bbl. was well into the planning stage but got the axe basically over night. They were wanting to do some serious damage to the opposing factory specials and this car was supposed to put it all to rest. As I recall.

until you have actually bolted 71-72 doors/ fenders on to a 73 or 74 do your homework.

I believe the years are lumped together for features/items they have in common, understanding they do have their differences. Same species (genetics), so to speak, but "evolving" as the model years go by.

Fenders will match between 71/72 and 73/74... differences are not obviouslly visible, since they are inside, but outside is a perfect match and will bolt on

Except quarters, rest of glasses are the same. Firewall is the same, floor boards could get minor stuff easy to match.

Just parts related with front frame rails are really different due the isolation ( this includes of course the front suspension )

Doors and quarters are diff, yes, but keept same design with just a "face lift" touch... somethink like we can see on 69 and 70 Coronets with lot of diff body parts

several ppl like to call 73/74 as 3 1/2 gen

really? I'm wonder if I try to fit a 67 roof on a 70 will fit... or a door.

Other than sharing drive train, 66-67 is NOTHING like 68-70.

exterior is different, but underneath they are fully interchangeable. same structure, same suspension.
But 71-72 B bodies are a completely different car underneath from a 73-74 from the firewall forward, and have completely different rear suspension too.

Kinda just year to year changes that everyone did to keep the showroom metal fresh and appealing. Remember, in 1974 the 1971 model had been around almost 4 years, and like everything else looked a little dated.

Dash is the same, cluster is the same, seats are either the same or interchange, floor pan is the same, cowl is the same, bumpers interchange, lots of trim is the same including mirrors, most interior panels interchange, doors and fenders can be made to interchange but will not line up style line wise.

So, yes they are subsets of the same set, with some carryover to 75-79, but nowhere near the same amount of interchange besides the ISO suspension.

I think this is the one and only unhappy Canadian!
Dude in today's day and age you can call your car what ever you want ! It's a freaking prius if you say so! But the rest of us don't need to change the truth to make one person happy ! Just let it go ! And let me tell you @Nacho-RT74 knows more about these cars then most any of us I would argue with him!
Why can't you just be happy you own a Dodge charger?

? what on earth does this have to do with being unhappy? I merely asked why the 71-74's are lumped together, when they are different cars. And for the record, I am very happy.
