So getting zerks for my windshield wiper pivots seems to be a challenge these days for some reason. Ordered a seal kit from DMT, no zerks included, ordered from vans, no zerks either even though they are pictured. Not sure if anyone noticed that the threaded portion of the zerks for this application is a fair bit shorter than regular parts store zerks so they don’t bind against the wiper shaft. Anyone know a source of these short reach 1/4-28 zerks? This is seriously holding up the progress on my Bee’s interior.

Did you ask Jim at DMT about the fittings?

I was going to call DMT Monday, but it would be nice to just find them separately.

Try McMaster Carr, not sure if they are short enough, but they have some 1/4 -28 zerks with only an 1/8 inch of thread.

I just grabbed a couple out of my stock to use on both my 65s. They just looked like every zerk I ever used? They have a tapered thread so they tighten up quickly.

I used plain ol' off-the-shelf zerks from my local parts store. Zerks have a tapered thread ... drill the hole just big enough for the zerk to start and then only screw it in enough to grab and hold. No problems. Hell, you only have to grease them once !!!

Yeah, I just used random zerks that I had laying around and they worked slick. Depending where you drill there is a bit of a pocket that would allow for the zerk to protrude as well as holding a bit of grease. I got lucky, I found the pocket by accident the first hole I drilled.

Any hints as to how far up the housing to drill and hit the “pocket”?

I'm sure there's detailed threads on this

Zerks were not installed when these cars were new, were they?

I drilled a small hole and used the needle point grease tip to grease the pivots. It worked well and I didn't need to thread in the zerks. Grease came out both ends of the pivots. After the hole was drilled i was able to spray penatrating oil in, waited a day and the pivots started to move. I just kept moving them and finally they moved free

This is a member's auction that shows where it should be...

I did the same after heating the wiper transmissions with a torch to melt out the old grease. They were so bound up I’m surprised the wiper motor could turn them.

Here is a pic of where I drilled mine. I used regular zerks from scrap ball joints. Greased them and they work great.

Ok so finally got the pivots done. I just got a standard zerk assortment from autozone and a couple hardware store 6mm copper washers (.040 thick), drilled, tapped, and cranked them in. EZ. All greased and ready to go back in. Good for another 58 years! Thanks everyone for the help!
