Iam thinking of going to the woodward cruise in August. Looking for suggestions on when to go, where to stay, and any other recommendations.
Thanks

I typically go the week of, up to Friday. Saturday is a madhouse parking lot! Great cars, great people and usually hot as hell! 440'

My son and his girlfriend just moved to Southfield, near Telegraph rd. Short drive to Woodward. So I have a place to hang out or I can even crash there if needed. I’m hoping I can take the car over from Lansing, now that it’s a driver.

Try DUGGAN'S on the right side of the road coming back from Pontiac for a very popular HAPPENING place.. woodwarddreamcruise.com
Last time I was there there were about 65,000 cruise cars and at least that many spectators. The cruise is on SATURDAY but just about all week proceeding, there are many many splinter groups ftom all manufacturers and models....Mopar A bofies, B bodies, C bodies, E bodies, GTO's, Fords, GM all makes and many "locals" with their Escalade's with the 26" wheels and sound systems at 200 dB kevels enough to make your ears bleed.
Accomodations are tough to get due to repeat bookings but start looking now....
Parking is also difficult and expensive....$20/hr in some places. Not far from the HENRY FORD MUSEUM and GREENFIELD VILLAGE plus gambling and shopping for the ladies....you've got to go AT LEAST ONCE. I use to trailer the GTX from Pittsburgh....watch your speed from Toledo Ohio thru Telegtaph Road to ....Michigan State Police are VERY STRICT.

20 beans PER HOUR to park ?

Oh how that has changed since the first 5 or so
YES.....some places even more....some places DO NOT have in and out privileges...some eateries even have time limits on how much time you can stay b4 being charged to park. Many places do not allow NON PATRONS to use the bathrooms without purchasing a meal or spending money. Most, but not all establishments, increase their prices 20% +, wait time in restaurants is long, sidewalk traffic is monumental with people constantly bumping into each other, Woodward Avenue traffic is horrendous especially on Saturday and worse on Saturday nite, several (?) Contests of acceleration and skill are prevalent, and of course, fuel prices are inflated to take advantage of the activities, the 15 mile round trip from 9 mile road to Pontiac and back can take 2+ hours, sometimes more......BUT....PARTICIPATION IS ABSOLUTELY AND ENTIRELY WORTHWHILE AND MUST BE EXPERIENCED TO BE BELIEVED. In one word....GO!! At least once, but be cautious, the cruise is very addictive....i've gone 10+ times....its constantly evolving and growing. But if you do go from, say mid week thru Saturday night, plan on spending $ 2-3 k depending on accommodations and activities.....we may go this year....maybe?? Just my opinion of course..

I've only been there as a spectator 2 of the past 3 years. Really hoping to take my 65 over this year (supposedly my car came from the Detroit area). We went to the Roadkill Nights (the weekend before) in 2016. That was great until the input shaft on the transmission in the Charger broke. My neighbor across the street grew up around there and he goes over a couple evenings during the week and then on Friday night and Saturday.

Did you race in Roadkill?? I managed to go for a few days Wed to Sunday for Roadkill but could not stay for the cruise. I hope to race Roadkill and stay for the cruise someday!

Not me. my brother raced his clients car for him. Unfortunately broke the input shaft in the transmission on the first pass. Had a pretty good run going too.
