WTF vinyl top removal

After removing the vinal top and plenty of filler I uncovered these slots behind each rear seat window, does anyone know what these are for ?

That is where the quarter panel skin and the roof skin meet. Not sure if they were leaded in at the time but that used to be the OG bondo. Well never mind on that... That is the same quarter window line as a 1971 Charger. Perhaps an odd plug to sell a 1971 as a 1972. Check out the 1971 Charger quarter window shape.

That is the seam for the plug used to make a regular Charger a small side-window window SE. Factory stuff.

By what 41 said it was a factory installed plug to make a regular charger an SE charger. So probably its a legit 72 I just wasn't aware that it was what they did to change the rear window to make it an SE. He is more correct than I am. I just happened to notice it looked like the 71 charger rear window shape.

72 SE same as 73/74 SEs ( and 74s with M07 code opera window models) got the same quarters than regular/standard cars, but to achieve the diff quarter window shape used filler plugs to give the shape/trim. Another extra reason to get those with vinyl top as standard equipment on them, hidding better those areas.

OF COURSE also a diff length drip rails and some other extras added (a slight non structural B pillar on 73/74 using a diff jam panel too)

Since 72 a legit SE gets the WP29 characters on VIN.

Agree- 72 only, SE only roof "plug".

I've owned and restored 3 and I've never seen one where the plug was that badly done. I'd advise not messing with the lead, and make sure you look under the sail panel inside. It hides other sins. But they can be smoothed and look good when recovered. Uncovered I've seen very few painted that I couldn't see the outline.
