Helping my son get his 62 converted from turbo street car to full on N/SS racecar. He's done a lot already. Motor and motorplate, header fitment, fuel cell and lines. I'm swapping the 3.54 for a 4.10. The 28" tires wouldn't fit. So I hot creative with the front fender. Trimmed a pie shaped piece out. The pushed the wheel lip forward about 1". Rewelded and metal finished. The paint is of no concern as it is original, worn thru, and faded.

Pretty sure I've seen this car in person at the track. Coolness factor of 10 on this one. I don't think i'd paint it overall for as long as you get away with it as is.:thumbsup:

Hub caps when it was a sleeoer turbo small block. New wheels and hood scoop now. Tried to make the scoop paint fit the look. Hood was repainted sometime early in its life from another car. It's blue underneath the paint. So it doesn't quite match. Motor paint is top notch.

Cool project

what's the expectations in performance ?
what class of N/SS ?
any predictions of overall weight, HP, ET & MPH ?

This is awesome, they are unique & for some reason, like a red head, make me weak in the knees.

I wish there was a thriving nostalgia series on the west coast. I'd put more work and power into my 62 savoy.

Oh, and the front edge of my front fenders have been trimmed back a couple inches too. Running a 235/75x15. Only rubs on the header tube in the wheelwell.

Edit: are the dual quads required to be legal?

Love this. Engine looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing all the little “DVW“ items and tricks that go into this buildup.

This was yesterday afternoons progress. Setting up ring and pinions is one of my least liked jobs. It takes me way too long. But it looks close. I'll put the real bearings in it today and button it up. Should come in around 3400 w/driver. See chart. Our bet is it should be easily able to run C/FX 9.75 index. Maybe 9.59's in good air. Not sure how many "tricks". I'd like to think at least I influenced the engine apperance.

Just curious.. did the small block die or just time for a change?

It did finally hurt a piston. Been bored and freshened up. Going into a Duster street car. Just plumbing the turbo piping on a mock up block now.

A friend has a Demon running a stock junkyard 1991 318. It got a reground factory hydraulic roller, timing chain, rod bearings, and a aftermarket intake. Much milder but it's been easy low 12's in testing. We expect low 11's this year.

that's basically what i'm building.. if i could run mid 12's and be decently drivable i will be happy enough.. need to get a rear pig still and find parts to convert the trans to 24 spline.. Heads are here and cam is supposed to show up today (baby 225/230 .525/109 howards).. i actually probably should have went next step down in duration but with 2.79 gears for this year i need all the low end i can muster :) '85 318 roller

BTW.. i assume he is running boost? Maybe next year a bigger motor.. although the thought of a torqstorm sounds kinda fun :)

Not a show car. But the rear is buttoned up. 35 spline, spool, 4.10, Cal trac, fresh Menscer shocks, Explorer disc brakes. Front is ready as well. Fresh Willwood rebuild, fresh Afco doubles, and my old American 200S with M/T 28"

Looking Good D. Next time I go to Detroit, I'll bring over my Felix The Cat bag of lightweight tricks. We'll make it a Ben Franklin light as a kite special. LOL.

The amazing part is with a slight move of the springs and a rolled fender lip, 10.5x29.5 M/T Pro Bracket radials bolt right on. The front hangers are flush to the frame. Shackles are replaced with sliders. Early on using steel wheels (10") it bent the rear wheel studs. So steel plates were machined and welded to the wheel for greater surface contact. Also added 5/8" wheel studs.
